The Appeal Video: YouTube's Exact Rules

The video appeal is the strongest tool a rejected creator has — and the most formal. YouTube publishes its spec like a form to be filled. Here is the form.

The deadlines around it

Appeal within 21 days of a rejection or suspension (if a suspension is scheduled, appealing within 7 days pauses it). One appeal only. Decisions usually arrive within about 14 days; a successful appeal can take up to 30 days to restore monetization. If the appeal fails, re-application opens 90 days after the original date. The Deadline Calculator turns your email's date into your dates.

The mistakes that void good cases

Deleting videos first — YouTube: "your channel will be assessed in its current state... you shouldn't delete videos before submitting your appeal." Leading with permission — the reused policy applies regardless of licenses. Arguing fairness instead of compliance — the review re-checks the channel against the policy; feelings about the policy are not evidence under it. Spending the appeal before fixing — if the audit finds live violations, the stronger move is the repair plus the re-apply clock; an appeal cannot be re-spent.

Questions, answered plainly

What happens after I submit a video appeal?

YouTube reviews the channel in its current state and typically decides within about 14 days. If the appeal succeeds, monetization is approved or restored — which can take up to 30 days to fully take effect. If it fails, the re-apply wait is 90 days from the original rejection or suspension date.

Can I appeal twice?

No — one appeal per decision. That is why the order of operations matters: audit first, fix what is fixable, and spend the single appeal on a channel and a video that meet the spec.

Should my appeal video show my face?

It is not required — narration over screen recordings of your process is acceptable — but the spec requires visual examples of how content is created either way. Face on camera plus process footage is the strongest combination most creators can produce.
